2M Update:
Beach Day!












Language Arts: Read story about a house.  Gathering information on different kinds of houses to build vocabulary for our expository house writing.

  • Forming and writing opinions about different kinds of houses. 
  • Sentence analysis on fairy house sentences - Identifying nouns, verbs, subject/predicate, capitalization and punctuation.
*Continue daily home reading to help your child progress with their reading!
* Students have been introduced to Daily 5 literacy centres and will work on them every week.

Daily 5 - Centres
Centre 1 - ABC Book - All About Me. Students write sentences using a word from each letter of the alphabet.  The sentence is about them and includes who(is doing the action), where,when or why(your action is done) and an adjective.
Centre 2 - Read to Self - Students pick a book at their level, read and write a book review.
Centre 3 - Sticker Story Centre - students pick 3 stickers to illustrate a story and write a story to go with the stickers using various sentence starters and vocabulary.
Centre 4 - Listen to reading - students use I pads and book flix. They pick a story to listen to and write about new words and characters in the book with illustrations.
Centre 4 - Interactive Notebook for sight words - students trace, build, highlight, rainbow word, doodle, read and find sight words to build vocabulary.











*Sight word test Friday, Feb 3.

Math; Missing parts with subtraction ex/ 12 - ? = 4
  • Does order matter with subtraction(Yes! The bigger number must go first)/Subtraction to compare ex/ How many more students are standing then sitting.
Social: Early days of Meteghan, Iqaluit and Saskatoon.
Looking at Places Assessment - will go home Monday - please sign and return.
Science:  Waterproof quality and strength of the bonds determine whether or not a structure can float for an extended period of time, We constructed and tested paper/newspaper and tinfoil/wax paper boats.
  • Students constructed self propelled boats and tested different designs that were appropriate to the design task.
  • Boats and Buoyancy assessment Thursday, Feb 2nd.  Please return green duo-tangs on Thursday.
