2M Update:

Language Arts:  Finished Eric Carl Study - The Very Quiet Cricket - comprehension questions/descriptive sentences/cricket diagram/Journal writing - A day in the life of a cricket.

List 8 spelling words - test this Friday, Dec 8th(See words that went home or previous blog for words)

Math : Building numbers using tens and ones manipulatives.

  • Representing and describing numbers using coins(pennies/nickels/dimes)
Science: Boats and buoyancy unit - Making sinkers float activity(See pictures) Students built a floating device that would hold 4 different weighted sinkers(rocks) without taking in water and sinking.












Social
:  New Unit - Looking at places - North/Sea/Prairies- drew pictures of each area.
Religion:  Read and discussed, The Story of Peter /comprehension questions/picture
  • Father Dan and Father Mike visited us this week to talk about being a good saint and Advent and sing songs.










Art:
 Snowman Snow globes(See picture)

Gym:  Volleyball Unit - using balloons to practice proper technique.

Upcoming:
Dec 7th - Return home reading/library books.
Dec 8th - Scholastic book orders due - Flyers go home Monday.
Dec 15th - Advent Evening at St. Mary's church @ 6:30pm.
Dec 16th - Fun food subway
Dec 20th - Xmas store - 9-3pm.(Students can buy gifts for under $5) 
Dec 22nd - Last day of classes before Xmas break.

Language Arts - Daily language Review / Practiced List 6/spelling test on list 6

  • List 6 spelling test went home in agendas(No need to send back keep at home). Please practice any words they had trouble with.
  • Eric Carl author study  - Mr. Seahorse - learning vocabulary from story/ABC order/comprehension questions/learning about seahorses/video.
  • List 7 spelling test this Friday, Nov 25th - handout with all words for the year went home this week.

Language Arts - In Flanders Field poem/read/rhyming words/Remembrance Day discussion

  • Remember Acrostic poems(See Picture)









  • Atlantic Puffin book - journal writing
  • Outrageous October scrapbook writing.
Math - Even/Odd numbers/ Counting with money/ Ordinals
Science - Water and living things/carnation and blue/red die.  The carnation turned blue testing our theory that living things need water.
  • Keeping our water clean/Ways water is polluted.
Social - Canada's symbols
Religion - Read story of creation and learned that God created the world out of love.
  • Garden of Eden pictures including 5 things God gave us.
Art - Tissue paper poppies(See Picture)










Gym - Hoop games/bean bags/over hand throwing with fuzzy balls.

Language Arts;  Journal writing - Halloween writing prompt

  • Remembrance Day/discussion - read "A Poppy is to Remember"
  • List 6 spelling test next week.  See previous blog for words.


Math:  Counting using a number line/ Skip counting by 2, 5 & 10/ even and odd numbers

Science;

  • Making Steam demo - water - liquid to gas(evaporation) and gas to liquid(condensation)
  • Wind and Water demo - effect of moving air and rate of evaporation.
  • Disappearing water demo - does water in an open container evaporate quicker/slower than in a closed container?
Science quiz going home Monday - please sign and return
Social: Canada Unit - flag/symbols/song  Read; " Why I love Canada"


Religion: Made bookmarks of Mustard seed story.

  • Learning about St. Francis/video/coloring sheet

Language Arts:  Sight word practice/ narrative story writing/DLR(Daily Language review)

  • Descriptive writing - read,' I Need My Monster '/ Created our monsters and used descriptive words in our writing to describe them (See picture)

Religion: Parable of The Mustard Seed - learning how even something/someone small can make a difference.  Mustard seed gift from 2B.
  • Made bookmarks for Catholic Education Sunday.

Math: New unit - Numbers to 100 - counting sets of items(groups of 2,3,5,10)/Counting on a number line by 2's, 5's, & 10's.
Science: Dissolving Solids in Water activity/ Stop the Leak activity - students were attempting to construct waterproof linings for a porous container using tissue paper, paper towels, tin foil and wax paper.
Social: Constructed our own maps with a key/ Finished Mapping Unit

  • Mapping Quiz Tuesday, Oct 25th - see study guide in blue social duo-tangs. Please return social duo-tangs on Tuesday.
Religion: Learning how the Apostles creed describes what Christians believe.
Health: Hand washing lesson

Language Arts:  ; Fall writing using descriptive words and the 5 senses.

  • Super September writing/ Teddy Anderson(Hoop Dancer presentation) journal writing. (See picture) 

  • How to write a story:  Bold beginning/order words/excellent ending.  Wrote a Fall story as a class.

List 4 sight word test Friday, Oct 21st

Math: Patterns review/Patterns assessment . Please sign/review and return assessments.
Science:  Absorbency tests of different materials. Repel and absorb words.  We learned that tin foil and saran wrap would make a better raincoat than construction paper and paper towels.

Religion:  How I can help my family /classroom sentences.
Art:  3-d squirrel(see Picture)   Please send in an old shirt for painting.











Gym:  Racquet games/badminton

Science; Which is heavier activity. Interactions of oil and water: observing they do not mix and water is heavier than oil,(see picture)












Religion:  Liturgy practice/wrote a prayer for Family
Art:  Fall Trees (see picture) / Turkey art

2M Update

October 3-7th
No sight words this week as it is a short week.  No school on Friday, Oct 7th(PD Day).
The next sight word test will be on Friday, Oct 14th.

Math: Quiz on patterns. Please look over with your child, sign and return.
Solving problems about increasing patterns,  Read 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar' and worked on patterns in the book and worksheets.
Science: Paper clip challenge and making a pile of water on a penny activities.  Looking at cohesion and surface tension with water.
Social: Mapping Skills
Language Arts:  read ' It's Fall '- Cut and glued Fall sentences in order

  • DLR -all week
  • Wonderful Words - List 2
Religion: We are each called by name: colored and decorated leaves for our tree(see picture).  How family supports us.  Made thank you cards to family members that support us. See our prayer table picture.


Computers:  Raz Kids - passwords went home so students can read at home as well.

Oct 4th: Picture Day & last day to collect deserts for Thanksgiving Hampers.
Oct 6th:  Thanksgiving Liturgy @ 10:30am. The grade 2's will be participating! Students can dress nice on Thursday.  Please come if you are available!

2M Update:

Hello Parents

This is what we have been working on.

September:
* Every Monday we will practice a new list of words and I will give them a sight word test on Fridays. The words will be glued into their agendas.  Please practice any circled words you see at the end of each week.

List 2: Prepositions

1.  under          5. across

Math: Describing, extending and increasing patterns.
Science: Discovering other liquids: transparent & opaque/ Racing liquids: exploring viscosity ex:       chocolate syrup had a higher viscosity than vinegar.(Picture attached-compared thickness of               different liquids by racing them down a pan.)
Social:  map reading and compass rose
Language Arts:  read "The Invisible Boy"-journal writing: How to be a good friend

  •  Its Fall booklet: sentences using descriptive Fall words
  •  Wonderful Words: list 1 practice/copy out/abc order/sentences
  •  DLR(Daily Language Review): all week


Religion: Learning about and setting up a prayer table/Grace before Meals prayer.  A prayer table has 5 items: bible/candle/white cloth/cross(rosary)/and something living(plant or animal).  We will be getting our fish next week!  Yeah!!!
Health: All About Me booklets
Gym:  Cooperative games/warm-up run and song
Art: Fall trees
