Language Arts:  Read ' The Story of the Leprechaun"/ journal writing/Literacy Centres/Reading about St. Patrick and St. Patrick's Day.

2M Update:

*Progress reports went home on Friday.  Please sign and return this week.

Language Arts; Practiced list 14/th words/spelling test/Literacy Centres/Fantastic February scrapbook writing./DLR(Daily Language Review).

*No spelling words as it is a short week.
Math: Adding 2 digit numbers to 100 with /without regrouping.  Please sign and return quiz that went home Friday.

  • Mad minute facts adding 2 and 3's
Science: Testing the strength of a magnet: Paper clip lift using a bar magnet, horseshoe magnet and ring magnet.  
Social: Learning about the traditions and celebrations of Iqaluit, Metaghan and Saskatoon. Comparing Inuit, Acadian and Ukrainian people. 
**Social Assessment on Wed, March 15th - Looking at People(study guide stapled in agenda).
Religion: Corporal Works of Mercy - Feed the Hungry - we filled 60 snack bags for our service project.  Each bag contained a juice box, 5 snacks a reusable snack bag and an Easter chocolate.  Please see pictures of grade 2's decorating and putting together the bags and students at St. Peters receiving the bags.

Art: Ted Harrison Painting Art - Canadian artist famous for his use of line and color in his landscape paintings of the Yukon.

2M Update:

Language Arts: Practiced list 14/spelling test/Literacy Centres/Daily Language review

  • Guided reading -  read "Who Will Be The Ruler?" comprehension/sequencing/synonyms practice.

List 15 spelling test on Friday, March 10th.

Math: Mad minute practice with 1's & 2's - please practice at home as well to increase fluency.

  • Adding 1 and 2 digit numbers using different strategies.
  • ex/ 12 + 36 = ?  Add ones first and then tens.  48 + 34 = ?  
  • use ten strategy  48 becomes 50 and 34 becomes 32 so 50 + 32 = 82
  • Number line if numbers are not big ex/ 58 + 3 = ?
  • Use Tens and ones diagram ex/ 27 + 24 = ? * Group all ten and ones for the answer.

Science: Magnets: Facts about magnets
  • Lets Go Fishing Activity: Distinguish between materials that are magnetic from those that are not.  See Picture.










Social:
People who contributed to Iqaluit, Meteghan and Saskatoon.  Visit from Mr. Woitas displaying his Ukrainian dancing skills.
Religion: Lent - made lent promises. 
  • Corporal Works of Mercy - focused on Feed the Hungry.  Please see handout about our service project.  If you are able to help please send in the peanut free snacks by Thursday, March 9th.












Gym:
 Finished our "Snow Flake" dance - 2M students performed for 2W and 4S.  Great job 2M!!!
